MANUSCRIPT FROM UKARI(5)

"I suspect my husband is unfaithful to me, but I have a feeling that I am partly responsible for that." Said Mayindi(Magai's wife)

Mayindi assumed that because she's added so much weight, and bossed her husband around like a child, he must have started seeing another woman. She thought Magai didn't complain because he has another woman somewhere who is everything she isn't, and gives him everything she couldn't. She is unaware that the man has actually never looked at another woman lustfully since he married her.

Gladys looked up to the ceiling as though she wanted to be sure the room wasn't spinning around.

"My husband and I are not happily married sha. I sleep around, and he sleeps around too. Last weekend, he almost caught me pants down with one Uncle #Dan, his dad's old friend." She managed to say through slurred sentences. 😖😵

Uncle Dan is Faith's father. But Faith, being a good Christian, doesn't believe her dad is capable of infidelity. So she didn't even entertain the thought. 👌

"Everyday, I am full of regrets for marrying Jibrin. I was pressured into marriage by my parents who felt I was getting too old at 22. I didn't want to be disobedient, so I went ahead with the arrangement, now I feel caged because he doesn't really see how much I want to be out there impacting lives and nurturing my political ambition. He thinks his tiny ambition is enough to douse my flame. I wanted the world to know my name, by the time I turned 40." Aisha looked pained as she freely expressed herself like this for the very first time.

Ochanya got pissed as she felt Aisha was trying to indirectly yab her for having no ambitions whatsoever. 😠

"I had dreamed of rising to become an Executive Director at my bank, but marriage changed that for me. After the first child, I had to drop the job and concentrate on raising my babies. I can't imagine having my kids raised by nannies. So I sacrificed everything since John is doing so well and can cater for the family." Ochanya said as she dropped her peppered chicken breast into Mayindi's plate. Mayindi loves food so much that her increasing weight is not a thing of concern to her. Her husband loves her like that.

"Leema my daughter here is 42 and a top executive with a telecom company in Lagos. She is still single while all her younger siblings are married with kids. I have never pressured her or allowed anybody to pressure her into settling if she wasn't ready. Every child has the right to pursue their dreams. So I allowed her to chase her goals." The old man waded in.

"Today, she is the pillar of our family. She supports her married siblings financially and otherwise. So imagine if she had married a dream-killer as a husband."

"Some of you ladies are responsible for why men lie to you. They claim to be busy just to avoid your poisonous company." The old man continued.

"Some of you would become bitter wives because your husbands hurt you some five years ago, and is yet to apologize for it. So you won't give him any peace until he does."

"Let me tell you a little something about men and how we respond to bullshit."

"When a man does you wrong, don't wait for him to come apologizing, apologies don't mean much to men. He'd buy you a gift as a way of saying sorry. He may tell you jokes, and once you laugh at them, he assumes everything is forgotten. But if you still hold a grudge, tell him. Don't keep carrying a long mouth around the house, waiting for an apology. He has already forgotten about the wrongdoing."

"And when you continue being impossible to please, he would find any excuse to avoid your company. Men abhor negative energies. Because negativity cannot put food on the table. Give him all the positivity he desires, and you'd create a child out of him." The old man saw guilt written all over their faces as they pondered on what he had said.

...............................................

"My dear no vex, I'm still interested in the names of your husband's friends that are trying to sleep with you." Faith asked Gladys. 🤔

Chai, Faith just wanted to be sure her husband isn't one of them. The other ladies all stared at Gladys with questions in their eyes.

"Trying you said? Some of them have already bashed-in my bumper, and the others are still begging like kids begging for candy." Gladys said carelessly. 🙆‍♂️😲

The old man felt the palpable charge in the air so he quickly asked the ladies, "Do you all know where your husbands are at this moment?"

One said her husband was attending a meeting in the office, another said the husband went to visit a family friend in Gwarimpa. All the women said where their husbands were, then he asked them...

"How sure are you that they are where they say they are right now?"

He asked because all the men were hiding in the other corner, behind a wooden divider in the same eatery. That's why the whole place was paid for.

The husbands heard everything that transpired, and some of them were in a prayer mood. They wanted God to seal Gladys' mouth permanently. 😂😂😂

"Do you honestly know your husbands, and do you think they really know you for who you are? He asked again.

"Truth is, most of you asked God for a husband, but you forgot to give Him real specifications like Good Character, Good Husband, Good Father, Understanding, Helper, Supporter, Diligent, Faithful... You all consumed your lists with things like, TALL, DARK, HANDSOME, RICH, ABUJA BASED, GOOD IN BED... etc."

"So God gave you exactly what you wanted, but a womanizer, a pathological liar, a weakling, an impotent man, or a drunk. You can never have it all. And you lack the patience and knowledge of how to deal with what is lacking. So you refused to find happiness because you are focused on the faults." He added.

He looked outside and saw an old friend walking towards the entrance. "Ahhh, my very old friend is heading here, haven't seen him in ages."

Faith looked up and saw her dad coming over. "What is he doing here?" She thought.

Gladys had texted her address to Uncle Dan, who was looking to finish what they started over the weekend. She didn't know any of the ladies would know the man. And she was completely oblivious to the fact that Moses, her husband was in the same place, staring at his father's friend walking towards the door.

Uncle Dan and the old man were schoolmates in Kaduna a long time ago.

Gladys saw him coming and started packing her things from the table. They had planned to go spend the afternoon at a hotel somewhere in Wuse2 since her husband was busy with work in the office and she can't stand these boring housewives. 🙄
