IT'S ALL IN THE PAST, NOW!

I had the privilege of meeting some fantastic humans on my journey through life. Many different characters but all had the same goal; to enjoy themselves while alive and also make it into heaven as their religions promised.

The problem there is that, enjoying life on Earth also means breaking the laws of one's heavenly fortune.

Most religions have made it clear that pleasure is a sin, and one cannot seek both pleasure and salvation in a lifetime. So we either suffer miserably on Earth to make Heaven or enjoy the sumptuous pleasures of the world and miss a life of eternal bliss.

This is what many of us were taught about being ready and prepared to meet God when we die, and it has made the majority of us complacent and lazy. Believing that we only need to dedicate our life and work to the idea of pleasing a religion rather than working to solve societal problems that shorten the lifespan of our people.

We are taught to vilify every rich person as a sinner but seek their wealth to do God's work on earth... But this isn't why I'm writing this.

Amongst the different characters I've come across is a group that does not give a damn what anyone thinks about them or their lifestyle.

From this group, I met a young lady, in 2010, whose dad was a wealthy politician who wanted to keep his nose clean but the daughter was a subculture. To her, life was not too serious. She did whatever pleased her and avoided anyone who tried to talk her out of being a disgrace to her family.

She studied law in an Ivy League college but wasn't keen to practice the profession. She just wanted to fly around the world and cruise through all seven seas in the quest to enjoy herself.

She did not only stop at doing drugs but organized sex parties with friends who thronged her because she was a rich kid who could afford all the booze and drugs they needed to feel good and catch some cruise at an altitude that only angels and demons could ever dare to ascend.

She smoked grass and took selfies, or allowed friends to record videos while she did. She didn’t have a sexy body but the grass convinced her that she looked like a model, so she only wore skimpy clothes, pierces and tattoos all over her body and she looked strange wherever she went but believed she was hotter that way.

When a video surfaced, in which she was visibly intoxicated, where she could be seen enjoying oral sex with a group of grass-worshipers. She didn't care or feel embarrassed, she even told her dad that "everybody does it in secret" and she was not a pretender.

She didn't raise an eyebrow when another photo of her stripping at a house party surfaced again. "It was her life and people shouldn't judge" she exclaimed.

This was a lady who believed that one day, she was going to get married to a decent man and have a decent family.

When the time came, all the men who came for her hand in marriage got turned back by her past. A past that didn't matter until the sun of maturity stood at midday.

It was at this moment that she blamed her friends for filming her sexcapades and she blamed her family for not forcibly bending her while she was still young.

When she joined a Pentecostal church to soak her sorrows by buying the hope that only the clergy sells, she assumed that the past would automatically vanish as she had turned a new leaf. It didn't.

There is no future without a past and this past forms the foundation of whatever we become in life.

Our society is not kind to, and does not delete, certain mistakes we make. If it knew when you once fucked up, that becomes your identity.

In our quest to find what best suits our personality, we deliberately ignore certain signals that indicate that we are going overboard with the "I don't care" attitude. This is usually where we think that we can do without the world or its judgemental people who don't know how to mind their business.

The lady in my story later got married to a man who genuinely loved her because of the inheritance she received after her father died. The man built his world from her wealth and filed for divorce after two children. His excuse; he didn't know she was a pornstar.

Her children will live with this scar till they die because the internet never forgets.

The decision to rock and enjoy her youth has robbed her of the joy/peace of adulthood and parenthood.

The fact of the matter is that what we see in other climes is not our culture and our African societies are built on morality.

If you want to shit on your destiny, shut the damn toilet door. 😐
