THE PEACEFUL ART OF NOISY WORSHIP

Nothing saddens me more than our over-dramatization of religious worship.

I saw a video where the person leading a prayer session appeared like he had Kyphosis (hunchback). He only yelled, screamed, and shouted nothing I could understand; which made me believe that he might have been “speaking in tongues”.

I felt pity for the “disabled” man until the camera turned to the congregants and I realized that it was not a deformity but their style of posture before screaming the Almighty down from the peace in heaven to bless them with the miracles they so desired.

The worship place looked poverty-stricken like the screaming worshippers who were all drenched in sweat due to the unavailability of an air-conditioning system in the tiny space.

I have forever noticed how certain worshippers felt that for their god to hear and acknowledge them, they must appear and behave like their “cult leaders” or founders of their religious sect.

From bleaching of skin to dressing like pimps or carrying the same hairstyle as their leaders; many worshippers forget God when they start to worship men of god with the sole aim of being “outstanding” or impressive.

With such pretenders, I’ve come to a damning conclusion that “if you cannot be like the God Who created you in His image, just be like your G.O. to get smuggled into heaven through the back door”.

I have a problem with those who make a mockery of worship by assuming God is deaf and they must scream or dramatize their supplication to Him.

I once asked a “screaming” neighbour why they believed that God and heaven are so calm and peaceful but cannot be accessed through peaceful modes of prayer.

They answered that the shouting was for the demons blocking the channel to God. That was when I realized that some people have worshipped men too long that their washed brain is no longer theirs.

That’s why when we are not dressing, praying, or acting like our religious leaders, we feel that we are possessed by some dark forces or lack the “anointing”.

The saddest part is that these bigots would go on to raise children who wouldn’t be taught anything outside what their brainwashed parents believed and practised.

The future is lost to false religious practices and they may soon turn every place of work into a place of worship to please the only one with access to God.

But who are they going to worship then, God or a man of God?
